Supervisory Customs and Border Protection Officer John R. Day retired after a 34 years with US Customs/Customs Border Protection (CBP). During his Customs and later CBP career he managed airport passenger and cargo operations, cruise ship processing, waterfront vessel and container operations and enforcement teams. Officer Day received numerous citations and awards for seizures and arrests for drug, currency and export law violations.

Officer Day served as technical advisor and instructor for overseas customs organizations. He performed assessment and developed an assistance plan for Vietnam customs, and he designed and managed modernization programs for customs in Jamaica and Trinidad. Officer Day instructed Iraqi customs inspectors, reopened Baghdad International Airport, and instructed customs, police and border control officers in Bulgaria, Kuwait, Nicaragua, Pakistan, St. Lucia and Tunisia. His instruction covered general customs enforcement, contraband interdiction, cargo and passenger facilitation, export control, and weapons of mass destruction and nuclear non-proliferation.

Captain Day was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for service as a US Army officer.

Since retirement in 2004, Officer Day has performed validations of companies' supply chain security programs worldwide under contract with CBP's C-TPAT program. He worked for Pinkerton as an auditor and C-TPAT subject matter expert. Mr. Day conducted a C-TPAT familiarization course for Barthco Custom House Brokers. Mr. Day was a customs expert for New York law firm Holland and Knight. He completed an assessment of Ghana customs for CBP for the World Customs Organization Framework Program. Mr. Day also served as Senior Customs Advisor in Tbilisi, Georgia.
