Balogh Kearney grew up in Budapest, Hungary. On July
4, 1976 she immigrated to the United States and was
employed by several large design firms in New York and
Philadelphia.
In
1987 she became a US military spouse and part of the
US military community. In 1989 and due to her fluency
in Russian and knowledge of Eastern European culture,
she was asked by the US Coast Guard to serve as a liaison
during a high-level Soviet Union delegation’s
tour of New York harbor and the Statue of Liberty. Her
knowledge of Russian and Hungarian culture became known
in U.S. government circles and in the early 1990’s
she was asked by the Environmental Protection Agency
to participate in the visit of a Hungarian government
environmental delegation to Philadelphia and Baltimore.
In addition, US officials sought her assistance with
several US military functions when Hungarian military
delegations were to be present.
Mrs.
Kearney has been active in the Hungarian-American community,
first being a Hungarian folk dancer, then supporting
a Hungarian Museum in Passaic, NJ and volunteering for
many years as organist of St. Stephen’s R.C. Hungarian
Church. She has supported many Hungarian cultural exchange
events. This support led to the presentation of an award
by the American-Hungarian World Organization in 1998.
In
additional to a successful package design consulting
business, Mrs. Kearney serves as a consultant to Defense
Solutions on eastern European issues. She, her husband
Michael, a retired Coast Guard Commander, and daughter
Boglárka live in Haverford, PA. As the Kearney’s
visit Hungary frequently, for more than a decade they've
maintained a second residence in Budapest. During the
Summer of 2004, the Kearney's established the Defense
Solutions' office in Budapest, close to the Ministry
of Defense. Together they led the Defense Solutions'
operation that resulted in a teaming agreement between
Defense Solutions and the Currus Combat Vehicle Technique
Company of Gödöllö , Hungary -- a joint
stock company owned by the Government of Hungary.
