BTR-3E1 Armored Personnel Carrier - New Vehicle Production
The BTR-3E1 armored personnel carrier and its variants are manufactured in the Ukraine by UkrespectExport and marketed to the United States Government and to the Iraqi Security Forces exclusively by Defense Solutions, Inc.
The BTR-3E1 is an 8x8 wheeled combat vehicle designed to carry infantry troops, arms and supplies on the battlefield while providing fire support from a turret mounted gun. It can also carry out reconnaissance, combat support, and patrol missions.
The BTR-3E1 features lightweight armor, 9 firing ports, NBC protection, automatic fire fighting system, and a Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS). Four side and two top hatches -- enlarged from earlier versions -- allow troops to mount/dismount quickly. Its high mobility and its weight make the BTR-3E1 suitable for amphibious and airborne operations in many environments.
The baseline BTR-3E1 armored vehicle was armed with a 14.5mm main gun and one coaxial 7.62mm machine gun. Operational lessons learned demonstrated the need for a larger caliber main gun. The BTR-3E1 can be fitted with up to a 30 mm cannon that can be remotely operated to provide increased solider protection in hostile environments.
The 30mm gun has a maximum firing rate of 330 rounds per minute and can fire AP-T (Armour Piercing - Tracer), HEF-I (High Explosive Fragmentation - Incendiary) and HE-T (High Explosve - Tracer) rounds.
The BTR-3E1K is a command and control derivative of the proven BTR-3E1 featuring a crew of 6, additional communications equipment, and two workstations.
